A message from Property Manager, Mark Kroeger
Recent and persistent drainage issues have compelled us to look at our Village-wide drainage situation from a new perspective. Besides facing the challenges in Polar Shores Addition, the Association is taking additional steps to remedy current problems and prevent future ones.
•We have started a culvert inspection program including all Village-owned drainage culverts under roads, as well as private culverts under driveways. Culverts are reviewed at least once a year.
•The leaf vacuum is clearing leaves from roadside ditches in order to assist the flow of water.
•Next spring, we will have a tractor with a side arm mower. The side arm mower allows us to mow the roadside ditches without a heavy tractor rutting out the ditch, causing water to pool in the low areas.
•We are planning to increase maintenance on all Association culverts.
The inspections mentioned above will look at culverts under driveways and roadside ditches. We have seen these culverts clogged with leaves, covered by landscaping vegetation, and half-buried in silt. The erosion of ditches leaves pools, and conversely silt, causing high spots.
Please be advised that some of you will be receiving a tag on your door indicating that some sort of culvert/ditch work is required. Most of these jobs can be accomplished easily and quickly, while producing dramatic results.
It will take all of us working together to accomplish our goals. Each culvert and road ditch depends on the culvert and road ditch downstream to work properly. If you receive one of these tags, please address the repair work as soon as possible.
Don't hesitate to contact the office should you have any questions. |
